In Summer, 2006, the Concord Regional Solid-Waste Co-operative
will likely seek public comment on the proposed landfill in Canterbury as required by NH Department of Environmental Services
Solid Waste Rules. Concerned citizens should take advantage of this opportunity to make their voices heard. Your speaking
up in opposition to this plan for waste disposal at this site is critical to maintain the ecological progress that has been
made on the Merrimack over the past thirty years.
We all recognize the need to dispose of solid waste in as ecologically
responsible, sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient a means as possible. At the Oxbow Initiative, our problem is with
the co-op site’s adjacency to the Merrimack River. To address our waste disposal, we seek alternatives to building a solid-waste
landfill along the river. We must break our region's addiction to cheap trash disposal.
The Oxbow Initiative NH, a
group of environmentally concerned NH citizens pursuing a grass-roots approach to advocate waste disposal change, will do
its best to keep concerned citizens informed of progress. Visit www.oxbownh.org for frequent updates as news becomes available.
